Oak Forest

Oak Forest is a large neighborhood centrally located. In fact it’s the third largest group of neighborhoods in Harris County with over 5,000 homes! Established in 1947, Oak Forest was a favorite among returning World War II veterans. Nearly all the first original homes were sold to veterans for between $8,000-$10,000.

 

In the early 2000’s, Oak Forest started attracting people who could not afford the Heights but still wanted to be close in. In 2010, the Houston Press ranked Oak Forest one of the “The Five Most Underrated Neighborhoods In Houston.” Since about that time, because of the favorable building lines and a high ranking Elementary school (Oak Forest Elementary) its been attracting massive amounts of new construction. Because of its massive size, close proximity and beautiful construction, both new and old, Oak Forest is now attracting lots of new restaurants, shopping, coffee houses and alike.
